1967 Ford Mustang SHELBY GT500 2D HARDTOP 428Ci V8 4-Speed Manual
DESCRIPTION
1967 Shelby GT500, beautiful restoration, 428ci / 4-speed, dual quad, the REAL DEAL!
This ’67 Shelby GT500 is everything you would want in a muscle car, and then some. The smooth, bright red paint features painted on white stripes – no vinyl here. The lower rocker panel area wears the iconic GT500 accessory stripes making sure there is no mistaking this for a standard Mustang. A closer look reveals a few subtle differences that make a Shelby stand out above the standard Mustang starting with the front end and the large round driving lights mounted in the grill. Shelby models were built with special fiberglass hoods like you see here with dual fresh air inlets accompanied by a special hood pin kit as an extra precaution on top of the factory latch. At the rear of the car, you will notice the horizontally mounted Shelby tail lights, much different compared to the standard Mustang’s in that these illuminate multiple tail lamps sequentially, similar to the same year Cougar. The wheels are special for the Shelby models and are sized 15×7 with a split 5 spoke design with black center caps and a gold Cobra to finish off the Shelby look. Tires are correct reproduction Goodyear bias-ply with raised white letters with the sidewall size designation E70-15 on all 4 corners.
The interior has been totally restored back to its original factory glory in correct trim code “5A”, Black Luxury Comfort Weave vinyl seat covers, new door panels, trim panels, carpet and headliner. Sitting between the bucket seats is the factory chrome 4-speed shifter with correct Reverse lockout and black shift knob behind the center mounted Rally gauges monitoring oil pressure and AMPs. Shelby specific items include interior emblems, factory installed roll bar, special safety belts, and gorgeous Shelby GT500 woodgrain, 3-spoke steering wheel wearing the correct Cobra horn button.
First removing the hood pins, then releasing the hood latch allows access to the engine compartment where the big, torquey, 428 cubic inch FE engine sits complete with factory correct dual quad intake manifold, a pair of 600 cfm Holley carburetors, and correct dual carb air cleaner assembly. This power plant was built to factory specifications using a period correct engine block and cylinder heads, both identical to what this GT500 was born with, but date coded 1968. Horsepower was factory rated at 355 with 420-pound feet of torque!
Applying the power rearward is a proper Ford Top-Loader 4-speed transmission that shifts like a dream with easy to find gears for those spirited drives to the local car show. Out back, pushing the power to the pavement is a proper Ford 9″ rear axle with an open differential spinning 3.00 gears – perfect for cruising down the highway and stop-light to stop-light performance.
Underneath this Shelby is as nice as the top side. New suspension components were installed during the restoration both front and rear along with new brakes and fuel system from front to rear. This GT500 is equipped with a factory style aftermarket true dual exhaust from the manifolds to the chrome tips exiting under the rear bumper.
